Sweet Joy Shoppe is a unique coffee shop with a lot going on!
Located on Atlantic’s Main Street at 315 Chestnut St., Sweet Joy Shoppe offers up the perfect place to eat, drink, shop, or host club meetings and gatherings. The restaurant also provides catering for small and large-scale events/meetings!
After owners Daniel and Wendy Schulz relocated to Atlantic, Iowa from Colorado for Dan's job in the wind energy field, they started Sweet Joy Shoppe. Opening a local business provided Wendy with great opportunities, such as meeting people in the area; many who have since become her good friends. The pair have two grown children and three awesome dogs. Daniel and Wendy’s latest endeavor was purchasing the Sweet Joy Farm near Cumberland, Iowa to grow fresh vegetables for their restaurant.

How many employees do you have?
We have six employees.
What do you like most about the community?
We love the historic downtown in Atlantic! So many great small businesses and such a friendly small town feel!
How are you personally involved in the community?
I (Wendy) am part of the Atlantic Area Chamber of Commerce, and our family attends church in the community. Our Yorkshire terrier, Chewbacca, is also involved in the area and visits the Salem Lutheran Nursing home in Elk Horn.
What services do you offer?
Our food includes: a great selection of coffee and tea drinks, homemade soups and salads with fresh local ingredients, paninis, pastries, breakfast burritos, gelato, and a different lunch special each day.
We also showcase local artists, wineries, authors, and bakers with an outstanding quality of goods - we like to celebrate the talents of local artisans! The shop also has a toy store, and sells new and used books.
What do you offer that other businesses similar to you can’t?
At Sweet Joy Shoppe, we support women who have been rescued from human trafficking by selling jewelry made by the women through Freedom Firm organization. 100% of the money goes to them.
Also, we refuse to own a fryer! Just a fun side note!

Where do you want your business to be in five years?
Sweet Joy Shoppe continues to grow and evolve all the time. We hope to sell more organic produce raised on Sweet Joy Farm to truly become a farm-to-table business.
