This week, we have featured two best friends and working moms, Shauntel Negrete and Jenna Johnston and new owners of Legends Café. Read more about their story below.
Who are the owners of this business?
Shauntel Negrete and Jenna Johnston have been long-time best friends since their days working in retail at the DEB in the former Mall of the Bluffs. Both Shauntel and Jenna are Council Bluffs natives and are the new owners of Legends Café as of May 1. 2023. Additionally, they own three Buck Snort restaurants in Harlan, Red Oak and Missouri Valley, Iowa.
How did they get involved in the business?
Their passion for entrepreneurship and working for themselves was the key driver to own a local business. They had learned a lot from Buck Snort owner and mentor, Dwayne Pleas and were ready to take the next step. The two have always had a dream of owning something local in Council Bluffs and when the opportunity came to purchase Legends Café (formerly Duncan’s Café) they couldn’t pass it up.
How many employees does Legends have?
Over 10 and most who work at Legends are family members.
Why did they want to own a business in Council Bluffs?
Being hometown girls Council Bluffs is their heartbeat. Owning something in Council Bluffs was important and a way to share their passion of good food and serving others.
What do they like most about the community?
How supportive the community is and making new relationships every day.
What do they offer that other businesses similar can’t?
We have an individual company culture with legendary customer service and great quality product.
What advice would Shauntel and Jenna give to other people who are interested in starting their own business?
You can do it! We love the reward of working for ourselves and that hard work really pays off. Plus, working with your best friend every day is a bonus and each has their particular strengths that makes the business work well.
Where do they want to be in five years?
The two want to continue to expand and have more time to travel.

When you shop local, you are helping a family who reinvests in the community.

Dunkin griddles, blueberry pancakes and the extra-large hashbrowns!
