Since its opening in 2017, there has been a need at the Charles E. Lakin YMCA for outdoor space to better serve the Council Bluffs community. This space helps support growth and now allows an outdoor amenity area for the Early Learning Center, summer youth camps and the greater community. The park is open to the public for use by YMCA members and the general community as a place of gathering and recreation during YMCA operational hours.

As part of TS Bank’s 100-year anniversary celebration and serving southwest Iowa, this gift will provide lasting generational impact. TS Bank is a proud supporter of youth and community development, and this this project was a mission-match for serving neighbors and the community.

"The generous gift from TS Bank has allowed the YMCA to provide a place for the Council Bluffs community to gather and connect, for families to move and play, as well as for individuals to exercise and relax,” said Amanda Sindelar, Executive Director for the YMCA of Greater Omaha, Charles E. Lakin Campus. “The space also allows for YMCA summer day camp and afterschool kids to experience fun and fitness outdoors in a safe place. The YMCA is excited to continue to use the park as a space to bring the community together, now and into the future."

The park features a covered pavilion, sport courts, walking path, green space, play features and additional parking. Anyone is encouraged to enjoy a game of pick-up basketball, the play features or experience an outdoor fitness class.
