Important changes to tax deadlines

March 23, 2020 | Collins Consulting

First of all, we hope that you and your family members continue to be healthy and safe. Our clients' health along with our employees’ health is of the utmost importance.

Collins Consulting continues to monitor and discuss the COVID-19 situation, our response and preparedness. We are continuing to take proactive steps to protect the health and safety of our employees, their families, our clients and the communities we serve by taking proactive measures to exercise our social responsibility as a corporate citizen, in helping minimize the spread of the virus.

This week has brought some significant announcements in regards to federal and state tax filings. We want to ensure our clients are up to date with the latest information announced this week. Here are some updates as a result of the COVID-19 virus:

  • Federal Tax season has been extended to July 15th
  • Iowa Tax Season has been extended to July 31st
  • Nebraska Tax has announced their filing date will be extended
  • We are awaiting announcement about employer payroll tax and business quarterly filings for first quarter 2020. We will communicate as information is known.

As of Monday, March 22, 2020, Collins Consulting will continue to operate and file tax returns but we are making several changes to ensure the safety of our employees, our clients, and our families during this time.

  • Continue hosting scheduled appointments by phone
  • Discontinue hosting face-to-face appointments
  • Communicate via email, phone or other electronic mediums
  • Follow a new process for document drop-off, see below

If you have not received a call and have submitted your tax documents, please be available by phone for your scheduled appointment time. We will continue handling appointments by phone unless other information requires us to make a different decision on office hours. As a valued client, please understand there may be circumstances that require us to reschedule tax appointments during this national event. This decision to schedule for later date and time is to ensure the safety of our employees and their families. We will communicate any changes as soon as possible.

If you are planning to send tax documents to our team in the next few weeks, please email, fax, or mail documents. These are our preferred methods of sending documents. If you must drop off your documents to Treynor, please contact us by phone when you are in the Treynor parking lot. Please email or call and we will give you further instructions on the drop off process.  Again, this is to limit as much social contact as we can during the COVID-19 virus event.

Due to the COVD-19 virus, we are working with limited staffing to ensure safety and health of our clients, employees and their families. You may experience a delay in our team answering phone calls. Below is a list of Collins team members email addresses for your convenience. Please feel free to email if you are having difficulty getting through by phone. We are in the office and working hard to complete our client’s tax returns.
