Treynor, IA, November 17, 2021 - After a successful career in community banking, Eugene (Gene) Young, of TS Bank in Treynor, Iowa, will retire on December 31, 2021.

A Treynor native, Young attended Treynor High School, then graduated from Iowa State University with a Bachelor of Science degree in History as well as a Master of Arts degree in History from Northern Illinois University. He also served three years in the Peace Corp in Sarawak, Malaysia on the island of Borneo, where he worked with the agriculture department team to promote secondary school students to attend trainings for current and new agricultural techniques.

In 1975, Young worked for the American Red Cross as a blood donor consultant and was then appointed Director of Disaster Services with Douglas/Sarpy and Heartland Division. From there, Young joined TS Bank in 1979. He is also graduate of the Iowa Bankers Association Ag Credit School.

Additionally, Young has served on the bank’s Board of Directors since March 2012 and will remain in that role after his retirement.

“Our roots are so similar as we have both traveled to the other side of the world and then returned. We have both built homes from which we can view our original family farmsteads and have worked in the same business with offices not far apart. We have both experienced much, but our roots are so deep in the Treynor community that we both returned to the hometown that molded us, that we love. And that love for community has led both of us to wanting to serve this community,” said Chairman of the Board, Mick Guttau.

Young has been actively involved in community service throughout his career. He has served as a board member with the Pottawattamie County Red Cross, Progressive Bankers of Southwest Iowa, Pottawattamie County Genealogical Society, Bethany Foundation, Salem Lutheran Church Association. He has also been an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Treynor. Gene and his wife, Jan have two adult married children Jacob Young (Cory) and Megan Dreyer (BJ) and six grandchildren. Gene enjoys reading, genealogy and gardening as well as spending time with family.
