Mick and Judy Guttau receive Alumni Medal from Iowa State University Alumni Association

November 9, 2022

Ames, Iowa, November 9, 2022 - During its annual Homecoming Celebration on Nov. 4, the Iowa State University Alumni Association conferred upon Mick and Judy Guttau of Treynor, Iowa, the Alumni Medal.

The Iowa State University Alumni Association established this award in 1948 to recognize ISU alumni for long loyal service to the university through alumni-related activities. It is the premier award given to alumni by the ISU Alumni Association.

Mick Guttau graduated from Iowa State in 1969 with a bachelor’s degree in farm operations. Judy Guttau graduated from Iowa State in 1968 with a bachelor’s degree in home economics education.

Upon graduation, Mick became a decorated helicopter pilot serving during the Vietnam War. After returning from Vietnam, he worked as a loan officer at a Treynor community bank for several years. In 1978, Mick and Judy were approached with the opportunity to buy the bank and came to own what is now known as TS Bank. They worked side-by-side for over 40 years and, together, they have fostered a do-good culture within both the bank and their community as well.

The Guttau’s passion for family, work, and community goes well beyond their bank, and it is evident in their dedication to Iowa State. Mick and Judy both serve as governors for the ISU Foundation, have taken leadership roles on the Forever True Campaign Committee and ISU Parents Committee, and are both Order of the Knoll members. Mick has also served on the ISU Alumni Association Board of Directors and on the ISU Athletics Council from 2009-2015.

They are Cyclone sweethearts, and their love includes all of Iowa State. Additionally, they are life members of ISU Alumni Association.

"We honestly are still in shock, but so very humbled. We are honored to be recognized by our alma mater that we love so much. Go Cyclones!" said both Mick and Judy Guttau.

Together, Mick and Judy have received multiple community service awards including the Red Cross Heroes of the Heartland Honorary Chm in 2019, the Treynor Athletic Booster Bash Honorary Chm and the Assure Honorary Chm in 2018, the State of Iowa Governor’s Volunteer Award in 2016, and the Heartland Family Service Leadership Award in 2011.
