Atlantic, IA - The Schildberg Recreation Area celebrated a ribbon cutting for the completion of the new fishing dock on Thursday, September 21. TS Bank donated $7,000 toward the project to help it to completion.

The Schildberg Recreation Area, located northwest of Atlantic, Iowa, consists of three large lakes ideal for fishing with boat access ramps. The perimeter of the lakes is approximately one and half mile of hard surface trails, an area full native grasses and flowers and a variety of wildlife.

The area also includes a dog park, butterfly gardens with benches, a modern campground, and picnic table areas. Local residents have enjoyed picnicking, fishing, running, cycling, and bird gazing thanks to the multiple park projects recently completed.

"We are grateful for the gift from TS Bank to help us make the Fishing Pier project possible,” said Seth Staashelm, Director of Atlantic Parks and Recreation Department. “This project gives not only the community but allows visitors from all walks of life to enjoy the lake up close to fish or to enjoy the views.

This project helps kick off the park development that will include picnic shelters, restrooms, and playground areas to be enjoyed throughout the Atlantic. Schildberg’s is one of Atlantic’s more popular spots and becoming more of a local and regional destination area.

The project will have a local area, statewide and national impact, as it assists with economic and community development, tourism, healthy living and wellness, nature appreciation and preservation.
