TS Bank concludes $15,000 grant to the local American Red Cross for southwest Iowa disaster relief

March 29, 2021 | TS Bank

Treynor, IA - TS Bank recently completed a multi-year gift of $15,000 to the local American Red Cross chapter which was utilized for disaster relief in the Southwest Iowa region, in particular the spring flooding of 2019.

In the first six months of 2019, a series of extraordinary floods and severe weather events battered communities across the Midwest. The American Red Cross was there with vital aid for tens of thousands of residents impacted by these emergencies, providing refuge, food, relief supplies, financial assistance and more.

That same year, Mick and Judy Guttau, Officers of TS Banking Group, were selected as the honorary chairs for Heroes in the Heartland, an event that honors individuals who have saved another person’s life during the past year or who have positively impacted the quality of life in the Omaha Council Bluffs Metro area.

Mick and Judy Guttau are known for their hospitality and ability to help direct others to assistance.

In the Guttau family, Judy is the mender – from altering prom dresses to repairing rips, while Mick is the big picture person. And if there is something unrepairable or the problem too big, suggestions are offered on where to get help.

Likewise, when a disaster or an emergency strikes, the American Red Cross serves as this first point of contact. They too, are there to help or direct others to help – to help alleviate human suffering. With the help of many, the American Red Cross made an incredible impact last year and will face whatever challenges lie ahead.

For nearly 80 years, March has been proclaimed as Red Cross Month to recognize people giving back through its lifesaving mission, powered by more than 90% volunteers.

“The Red Cross provides many services and programs, but its impact to the Armed Forces touches a soft spot in our hearts. As honorary chairs of the Heroes in the Heartland event, our role was to assist with fundraising for the American Red Cross,” said Mick and Judy Guttau.

Mick Guttau served as a helicopter pilot during the Vietnam War, an experience his children said helped shape his life after military service. TS Banking Group CEO, Josh Guttau said his parents’ involvement with the Red Cross was, “driven by Mick’s experiences in Vietnam and seeing the importance of blood and emergency response that the Red Cross represents.”

“I hope you know, that you are heroes to myself, to your grandchild and your entire family.  You were really good business people and bankers, but even more so you were great parents.  And the great parents is what makes the rest of that work,” said Josh Guttau.

“You set such a great example for me and Josh and our children of what you can achieve. I’m the luckiest girl in the world to have you as parents and even luckier to be the grandparents of my children,” concluded Heidi Guttau.

The American Red Cross has had an impact on the Guttau family.  Similarly, the Guttaus and TS Bank are grateful to help the American Red Cross make an impact on others in the local communities.
