From Farmers Market to Main Street: The story behind Tweets – Coffee, Eats & Treats
December 23, 2025
At TS Bank we believe that a community is only as strong as its local businesses. This is why we have highlighted local businesses in southwest Iowa as part of our Eat, Shop, Bank Local blog series. For this blog we have featured Katie Bonnet and Cassi Johnson owners of Tweets in Treynor, Iowa.
Story behind the owners of the business?
Katie and Cassi first met in 2021 at the Treynor Farmers Market. Katie was selling Fire Wife Fashion earrings and Applewood Acres sourdough, while Cassi was offering Epicure products and her signature Lilypops (dessert pops). The two quickly bonded over their shared love for creating in the kitchen and began dreaming of a future business -preferably indoors, away from the summer heat and tents!
In 2024, an opportunity presented itself to Cassi and her husband, Alex, to open The Lilypop Shop in Treynor. While dessert pops were a hit, they realized a small-town shop needed more variety to thrive. Coffee and other drinks were added to the menu, and Katie joined in to provide her baked goods.
After less than a year of success, Cassi and Katie saw an opportunity to move into a much larger location down the street. The Johnsons and Bonnets partnered up, purchased 14 W Main Street, and launched Tweets – Coffee, Eats & Treats!

Tell us a little bit about your business?
Tweets is more than your typical coffee shop; it’s a welcoming space for the community and visitors to relax, connect, and enjoy delicious drinks, baked goods, and desserts. For those on the go, Tweets offers a convenient drive-thru for a quick pick-me-up!
What advice would you give to other people who are interested in starting their own business?
Jump right in! It’s absolutely terrifying, but it won’t happen if you don’t take the leap. Surround yourself with people who cheer you on. Put yourself out there whether it be online, at vendor events, or networking opportunities like REV. Meet other small business owners; we’re all in this together and happy to share advice.
Don’t be afraid to invest early but avoid splurging on unnecessary things and wait for income before upgrading. Most importantly, remember why you’re doing this. If it’s just for money, you’re doing it wrong. HAVE FUN! It’s stressful, but don’t burn out. Enjoy the ride.

Where do you want to be in five years?
Now that the shop has been up and running for over six months now, we’ve started dreaming about the future. While we have a few directions in mind, one thing is certain—Tweets will continue to be a staple in the Treynor community!

What factors influenced your decision to choose our bank for your business needs?
TS Bank is a fellow Treynor business that supports its community, plus they are conveniently just down the street! TS Bank has been a huge supporter since the beginning from ordering desserts for events and promoting our products
Can you share any specific examples of how our bank's services have helped your business grow or overcome challenges?
TS Bank provided loans for both buildings we’ve purchased, and we know our business checking accounts are in good hands! They’ve promoted our businesses repeatedly, and we appreciate that so much.

Can you share an instance where our team went above and beyond to assist you?
Our local Treynor branch has the absolute best team! They treat us like family, assist with anything we need, and even visit Tweets weekly (or more). They’re some of our favorite customers!
Can you share any experiences or benefits you’ve observed from our bank’s community involvement?
Where to start?! TS Bank bought Lilypops for their 100-year celebration which was one of our first big orders! They’ve invited us to events, featured us on social media, and we’ve teamed up for pop-up events in the bank’s green space.
Additionally, we were REV 2024 finalists. While we didn’t win money, the networking and marketing exposure were invaluable. TS Bank’s sponsorships for local activities and events make a huge difference in our community.
What are some new things happening in your business now?
Tweets opened June 5th! We still offer your favorite coffee, smoothies, desserts, and baked goods and added soda (including “dirty sodas” with flavor and cream) as well as savory breakfast and lunch items, which have been a huge hit! We’ve also partnered with Jarvis Quality Meats for several of these specials. Additionally, our gathering room has been a nice bonus for people to use for bible studies, bridal or baby showers and more.
How has this last year affected your business and how can others help?
This past year has been a whirlwind! A year ago, we had just opened our first brick-and-mortar shop. Now, we’ve moved to a larger building, formed a partnership, and serve so many more customers. The best way to help? Stop by, grab a treat, and spread the word!
